There’s No Top Dog in the Sauna

In the sauna, and in the cold plunge, we are all on equal footing- undeniably human. The challenges and hardships that we experience when we encounter extreme temperatures, reach an evolutionary part of ourselves that seeks others when times are hard. When we encounter challenging temperatures and our core body temperature begins to change (more so in the cold than in the heat), our brain releases signals to seek others through our hormone system. One of these hormones is, oxytocin - the hormone of bonding. Along with endorphins and serotonin that boost our mood we tend to be more receptive to those around us, recognizing them as necessary for our survival.

The health of the community occurs in the little moments in between. Just by gathering together in a space made to pamper and challenge ourselves, we are more open to positive social encounters and able to engage each other on an even playing field. That’s why we always say, ‘wellness is better together’. You aren’t alone in your striving- whatever the goal, we are here with you through it all.
